Participant::Looping is a great practice technique where you focus on a short section of a song, lick, or exercise, and repeat it VERY SLOWLY until you have it down. An example would be the first few notes of “Monrobro.” Some people have trouble with this tune because it starts out on the low strings, and they’re not used to playing on the low strings. Take the first four notes and just focus on them. Play them slowly and perfectly, then repeat those four notes again. And again. And again. Do not play the next notes until you have these first ones down.
Breaking the song down into smaller segments REALLY, REALLY helps the learning process. DO NOT PLAY THE WHOLE SONG THROUGH FROM TOP TO BOTTOM UNTIL YOU ARE READY! I used to make this mistake a lot. I’d play through the song from “beginning to end” and just kind of “gloss over” the parts I didn’t play well. In my mind I’d say,”I’ll come back and fix that later…” but I rarely did do that! When you break it down into smaller parts it helps your brain and your fingers work out what it is your mind wants them to do. AND THIS MEANS YOULL IMPROVE FASTER!! LMK how it goes with this excellent practice technique, I highly recommend it! -

Participant::I spent a bit of time learning the second break of Django’s Blue Drag. Had to make it sooooo slow because he plays a crazy run so quickly that it was impossible to figure out. Might be a good one to look at as a tutorial – can discuss the subject of embellishment generally and maybe some typical patterns used or exercises.

Participant::I spent about 6 weeks of my life learning Daniel’s Second break in this: https://youtu.be/zZVplmSr5Dc
The album version is different to this video but it’s a nice break here too.
I love this melodic style
