Hi Rod, great question! I used to have a Wechter/Scheerhorn Signature Model with Abe Wechter and Tim Scheerhorn and I thought it was the best sounding guitar in your price range. I just heard someone playing one recently and it sounded great. So you might look for a used Wechter/Scheerhorn.
Regals are okay, but might not give you the tonal quality you’re looking for. Beards are great also.
